Council of Europe
Sweden has ratified several of the Council of Europe's conventions. For four core conventions, a committee of independent experts has been established. The committees monitor that states ensure the protection and promotion of the rights stipulated in the conventions they have ratified.
With the exception of the European Convention for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment, states that have ratified a convention must regularly, with an interval of between two and five years, report to the committee on the implementation at national level of the provisions stipulated in the convention.
