EU NGO forum to address violence against children
The 11th European Union - NGO Forum on Human Rights will be held in Sweden this year as part of the Swedish presidency of the European Union. The Forum will be dedicated to child rights with a special focus on violence against children.
EU Commission and Sweden's Ministry for Foreign Affairs co-host
EU-NGO Forums annually bring together around 150 delegates representing non-governmental organisations, international organisations, EU Member States, and European Institutions. NGOs from Afghanistan, Kenya, East Timor and Colombia, as well as other countries, will attend.
20th anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child
This year is particularly important for the promotion and protection of the rights of the child, as the international community celebrates the 20th anniversary of the adoption of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.
In addition to opening and closing plenary sessions moderated by Mr. Jan Nordlander, Ambassador at Large for Human Rights, delegates will meet in three parallel workshops.
The first workshop will focus on the problem of corporal punishment of children, the second one will explore how to effectively implement the EU Guidelines on the Rights of the Child in the field of violence against children, and the third one will look into addressing the problem of violence against children in conflict- and post-conflict situations.
The conclusions and recommendations from the Forum will be presented at the Council of the EU Working Group on Human Rights (COHOM) and assembled in a report.
